Entrepreneurship is becoming an important topic in many communities, and covering this world can be a challenge for business journalists. Many of the old rules don’t apply as tech-based companies have the potential to either fail or scale very quickly. Public filings or records may be few. Yet these businesses hold the promise of future growth and are shaping the way we all think about the workplace. How can you evaluate a startup story and frame your coverage of it? What broader questions do you need to ask about how your city supports its startup scene? And how can journalists ask the smartest possible questions of company founders — the kind potential investors would ask? We’ll talk to an investor, entrepreneurship experts and a journalist to find out.
